Los Feliz doesn’t see new buzzy restaurants arrive all that often, which makes Wilde’s such a welcome addition to Hillhurst Avenue. This British spot, opened by two childhood friends, has quickly become a neighborhood gathering place. The candlelit dining room is dotted with antiques and eclectic artwork—yes, even framed teapot pictures in the bathroom—creating an atmosphere that feels genuinely cozy rather than contrived.

The kitchen delivers Commonwealth classics with playful updates that actually work. The bangers and mash hits all the right notes with juicy sausages nestled into impossibly smooth potatoes, while the battered sea bass puts most pub fish and chips to shame with its perfectly crisp coating. Start with the steelhead crudo or chicory salad before diving into the heartier plates, and save room for the eton mess, a delightful finale featuring spiced apples. The wine list focuses on low-intervention bottles, and nearly everything clocks in under $100.

Getting a table takes some strategy right now. Half the restaurant is reserved for walk-ins, which means waits can stretch to an hour or two. Use that time to grab a drink at nearby Vandell or, if you’re feeling adventurous, the decidedly different Ye Rustic Inn. During daytime hours, stop by for excellent pastries—scones, cakes, and sausage rolls are all worth the trip.

Wilde’s fills a gap in the neighborhood that people didn’t quite realize was there. Between the inviting space, friendly staff who actually know their menu, and food that respects tradition while keeping things interesting, this is exactly the kind of spot Los Feliz needed. Word has it a Sunday roast is in the works, which should give regulars even more reason to keep coming back.
