Side Pie
A fun pizza spot in Altadena with excellent pies and a big patio.

Side Pie began as a pandemic pop-up in someone’s Altadena backyard, but has since grown into a proper restaurant with a sprawling patio that’s become a neighborhood gathering spot. String lights overhead, a stage for live music, and a wood-fired oven create an atmosphere that feels like a perpetual backyard party—casual, welcoming, and just a little bit festive.
The pizza here stands apart from the typical LA scene. Instead of the thicker Neapolitan-style pies you’ll find elsewhere, Side Pie opts for a thin, crispy crust that provides the perfect crunch with every bite. The slices come so generously sized that you might want to tilt your head while eating to keep all the toppings in place. Their signature “Altadena” pie, loaded with pepperoni, creamy ricotta, and fresh basil, hits all the right notes and has earned a devoted following.
For those who prefer white pizza, the “Kevin Lyman” delivers beautifully. A delicate cream base gets topped with three cheeses—ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan—along with plenty of garlic. It’s rich without being heavy, and the garlic provides just enough punch to keep things interesting.
Note: Side Pie was tragically destroyed during the January 2025 LA wildfires and forced to close. Check for updates on potential reopening plans if you’re hoping to visit.
