Peanut Chili Crunch (aka Seroendeng)

How to Make the Best Peanut Chili Crunch (aka Seroendeng)

This Peanut Chili Crunch, known as Seroendeng in Indonesian cuisine, is a versatile Southeast Asian condiment that will transform your everyday meals. With its irresistible combination of crunchy roasted peanuts, crispy shallots, and spicy dried chilies, this topping adds layers of texture and bold flavor to virtually anything you put it on.

What makes this recipe so special is its simplicity—just a handful of ingredients and about 15 minutes of your time yields a condiment that rivals anything you’d find at a specialty store. The dry-toasted chilies bring a deep, smoky heat while the peanuts provide satisfying crunch and protein. Crispy shallots tie everything together with their sweet, savory notes.

Sprinkle this magical crunch over rice bowls, noodles, salads, grilled meats, or even eggs for an instant flavor boost. Once you have a jar of this in your pantry, you’ll find yourself reaching for it constantly. Feel free to customize with the optional additions like toasted coconut or dried shrimp to make it your own signature blend.
