Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce

How to Make the Best Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce

This Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce is a refreshing departure from the overly sweet, store-bought versions you might be used to. Made with pure maple syrup instead of refined sugar, it offers a more complex sweetness that pairs beautifully with the tartness of fresh cranberries and the bright citrus notes of orange.

What makes this recipe special is the combination of fresh apple and orange mixed into the warm cranberries after cooking. The apple adds a subtle crunch and additional natural sweetness, while the orange zest and flesh bring a vibrant, aromatic quality that elevates this simple condiment to something truly memorable.

Best of all, this cranberry sauce comes together in under 20 minutes and can be made several days ahead—one less thing to worry about on the big day. Whether you’re serving it alongside roasted turkey, spooning it over brie, or adding it to leftover sandwiches, this healthy, vegan-friendly sauce is sure to become a holiday staple.

Ingredients

Cranberry Sauce

Instructions

Making the Cranberry Sauce

  1. In a pot, cook cranberries, maple syrup and a pinch of salt over medium heat, until lightly simmering and cranberries begin to pop, about 8 minutes. It is okay if cranberries are in different stages of breaking down. Some will be popped, some will still be whole.
  2. Remove cranberries from heat. Add diced apples, orange zest and chopped orange. Mix to combine. It will thicken as it cools.
  3. Refrigerate until serving.

Notes

  • This cranberry sauce can be made up to 5 days ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
  • For a chunkier sauce, reduce cooking time so fewer cranberries pop.
  • Adjust maple syrup to taste depending on how sweet you prefer your cranberry sauce.
